New user with questions

Hello,

I’m using Keyshot with Ironcad and I’m new to both, but not new to modeling and rendering. We’re using Keyshot within the exhibit design industry. Starting out with Keyshot I have a couple questions:

  1. What’s the best way to show a panel being backlit, like a backlit graphic? In my old software, I had an option to add “glow” to a texture to kind of fake it looking backlit.

  2. Is there a way to show/add LED strip lighting within Keyshot, like what you might see under a countertop edge?

  3. The lights from Ironcad come thru at a very low level, is there a way to adjust individual lights within Keyshot?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Doyle,

  1. There are several options, you can use an emissive material with for example a black plastic label which covers the emissive. So you make a black/white image where the white part will show the emissive material and use it as an opacity texture for the label material. Combined with the bloom option under the image tab you can get the glow if you wish.

  2. There are different ways to achieve this, I mostly just add some geometry which I make emissive or if you need more light, give it the area light material. Especially if those lights are out of sight you don’t need to worry about creating precise geometry.

  3. You can use the light manager to change the individual light. I must admit I never import lights from my models and just create them in KS. I can imagine for your purpose with exhibit designs it’s good to import them from the CAD software. If it’s all a bit low lit you can also try to use the exposure slider under the image tab or just use an HDRI where you tweak some values for additional ambient light/reflection. I would love KS to have a more physical kind of camera so you could adjust things as aperture and shutter speed to correct overall lighting in a scene.

I’m sure some others have also nice ideas. Good luck!
